Connection and intimacy while men speak and head a language of status and independence. because of this, male-female conversations represent what tannen would call cross cultural communication. Women seek to be involved in a cooperative relationship where her life and decisions are intertwined with her partner"s. Discussion is important and decisions should always be made with other"s viewpoints and opinions being taken into consideration. Men, on the other hand, prefer to make decisions based on the need to show independence. Males prefer to make decisions on their own to ensure that they can maintain their independence even when in a relationship. Another factor that males often think about are their status compared to others around them. Status and one-uping his peers are concerns that many men tend to have.
