SOC 001 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Barbara Ehrenreich, Working Poor, Living Wage
Document Summary
There is no doubt that there is a large gap between the rich and the poor in today"s economic system. The gap is getting larger and larger despite the government"s many attempts to decrease the devastating levels of poverty that are currently plaguing the nation. There is an ongoing debate about whether or not it is possible for families in poverty to live within the confines of their minimum wage paychecks and why there is such a struggle to make ends meet. Moreover, it is questionable whether or not it is possible to move up within our current economic system within the united states. Some people debate what the true meaning behind the culture of poverty. Some state that it is the bad attitudes and poor decision making skills that plague the impoverished citizens that define the culture behind the economic status.
