SOC 003 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Behaviorism, Classical Conditioning, Fraternities And Sororities
Document Summary
Social psychology can be described as a science that studies the influences of our situations, with an emphasis on observing how we view and affect one another. To study these topics more effectively, social psychology is broken down into four main perspectives. These perspectives (also referred to as paradigms) include the behaviorist, cognitive, structural, and interactionist perspectives. The behaviorist perspective focuses on observing only directly observable behavior. These are actions that can only be observed through sight; behaviorists do not ask their subjects questions concerning why they chose to engage in a certain behavior. It emphasizes the relationship between those behaviors and the environment, which can also be referred to as the social world. classical conditioning is an example of how the behaviorist perspective can be used to observe actions. Classical conditioning is a method of learning through response to a stimulus.
