Document Summary
3 important aspects: holistic, comparative (compares cultures over space and time, seeks limit cases (look at most extreme or deviant versions of what people do) know they"re not the same thing. Emic (insider) perspective: how people understand themselves differences people in society/culture would recognize. People within the culture know different words mean different things. (ie fat vs bat) Tailgate party vs christening how you dress and talk at both might be different. Tailgate and christening vs doing laundry to outsiders, tailgate and christening have. Differences people within society wouldn"t care about quite a few similarities and can both be contrasted to doing laundry. Archaeologists: look at human past through objects objects tell stories that are hard to get at through just interviews. Biological anthros: team up w/ cultural to understand cultural sources for disease and human capacity. Ex: only other mammals that can drink milk are like sea animals. For some reason, we can still drink it.
