The centaur and the lapith from the classical period represents battle between centaur and lapiths (mythological men the greeks identified with : both attend a wedding, centaurs get drunk and start attacking women, so battle breaks out, lapiths win relationship between being greek and being non greek, greeks had just defeated persians and athens had taken over a lot of other city states.
