Male citizens were required to serve in the military. Even women were required to exercise so they would have healthy children. Many more rights than women in other city-states. Senate made of men sixty years or older and were chosen for life. Non-spartans that the spartans used as slaves. Heavily depended on them because they were the only ones available to do anything other than fight. Had a strong navy rather than infantry. Triremes were warships that required great manpower. Led to democracy because they needed the willing cooperation of the majority. Aristocracy where the aristocrats were exceptional, mentally and physically. To show off, they often served in other city-states" armies. Democracy developed from the conflicts between the aristocrats and the people. Seized power in athens as a benevolent tyrant. Turned athens into an economic power through trade with olives. The agrarian reforms allows people to cultivate the olives. Bonds with the common man and makes a series of reforms.
