Personality psych conditioning and behavioral theory of personality: Application: coping cat for child anxiety disorders. Personality development: learning more and more responses through naturally-occuring reinforcements. Psychopathology & change: re-learning, functional assessments and taken economies. Individuals are not sick, just don"t respond appropriately to certain stimuli. Either didn"t learn a response, or learned the wrong response. Is punished for a behavior that is adaptive. Is reinforced under inapproproiate circumstance for what would otherwise be considered an adaptive behavior. Behaviorism: people gradually acquire their personality styles (thoughts, behavior, traits) as results of experiences with the environment. Predominant school of thought in mid 20th c. Person as machine: body as mechanisms (heart, lungs, etc) that have dif functions. But personalities are not machines, people are spontaneous, fun loving, conflicted, imaginative, etc. Determinism: belief that an event is caused by some prior event, with the cause being something that can be understood according to basic laws of science.
