Document Summary
Some sort of roots that are iconic in nature. Often will imitate a sound, but not always. They can be reduplicated in an iconic way. Example: when it knocks, it goes knock knock knock. Example: it"s the sound of trotting horses when it goes chak chak chak . Pronouns in natural language bear various features; e. g. , person, number, gender. Kuhn (2016): loci are a special, open-class type of features; one argument against the pure variable analysis is loci re-use. Schlenker"s further refinement: loci are both variables and features, but height on loci is a feature. Spoken languages can reduplicate ideophones in an iconic way. Punctuated plurals: each repetition = individuated atom, so # of repetitions can be interpreted iconically. Arrangement can be interpreted iconically in both punctuated and unpunctuated plurals. Anaphora possible to identifiable individuated atoms, i. e. , edges and vertices in all plurals, any atom in punctuated plurals.
