Social psychology: the study of the causes and consequences of sociality (sociality or being social) Aggression: behaving with the purpose of harming another. A strategy used by every animal on this planet at some point in their lifetime. What causes animals to be aggressive: frustration-aggression hypothesis > animals engage in aggression when their desires are frustrated (we wants something, and we cannot get it! = we act aggressively!: biology and aggression. 90% of murders and 80% of violent crimes in the u. s. Aggression is strongly correlated with a hormone called testosterone: men tend to have higher levels of testosterone. Men are socialized to be more aggressive; however, men are also biologically more aggressive (high testosterone). Assault, battery, and offense almost exclusively committed by men. In the south men are taught to aggressively when their status is challenged versus in the north. Engaging in violent games, music, programs desensitized us from violence. Aggression becomes a part of our daily lives.
