Document Summary

Week 6 (2/14, 16): be able to provide examples of both abiotic and biotic factors that can act as ecological filters. Weather: local atmospheric conditions over a short period of time. During the winter the northern hemisphere is tilted away from the sun which and during the summer the northern hemisphere is tilted toward the sun. The sun aims directly at the equator during the spring and fall. Sun hits the equator at 900 and becomes shallower the more northern and southern you get: deserts are commonly found at 300 north and south latitudes. Occurs when sunlight at the equator causes arm, moist air to rise. As it cools, precipitations occurs near the equator. The cool, dry air moves away from the equator and turns to the surface where it warms. The result is dry climate at the 30 degree north and south latitudes.
