Fertilizers and pesticides are getting into the water supply. Reduced tilling/ no-till practices: less fuel and labor, contamination of fertilizers. Run-off can lead to contamination in the water supply: increase in nitrate, phosphates, and potassium in water, increase in synthetic fertilizers in modern days. Increased nutrients in water= eutrophication: ex. algal blooms, gulf of mexico, hypoxic dead zone- limited oxygen in water causes dead fish to rise. Crop rotation- gives soil a chance to replenish. Better application- more precise application to those plants that need it more (gis technology: contamination of pesticides. Risk of bio magnification and contamination of drinking water. Concerns of effect on humans (we are closer to insects) Overuse insects will become resistant to the chemical causes more insects to appear creation of a more toxic chemical.
