Early decisions: newborns: 40% of body energy is dedicated to growth. Double birth weight by 3 months: high caloric intake relative to body weight. Breastfeeding ensures babies get the nourishment they need. Malnutrition: worldwide: 25% of children under age of 5. 10% of u. s children do not have enough food. Degree of awareness infant displays to both internal and external stimulation. Newborn states of alertness: newborns alternate among four different states throughout the day.
