Disowning knowledge: issues in genetic testing, robert wachbroit. Wachbroit considers whether physicians are justified in limiting patients" access to certain kinds of genetic tests or test results. Physicians are making decisions for their patients, without considering the autonomy of the patient. In regards to social or psychological harms, he explains that the physicians have no way to prove that the patients would be harmed in any way. They are basing their decisions on what they think might happen rather than on evidence. Wachbroit continues to state that for some people, discovering that they have a genetic condition can be debilitating but this is only for some people. For others, they might be okay with this information and use it to plan the rest of their life accordingly. Regardless of how people may react, they need to be given the opportunity to choose what would be best for them. We are all individuals and handle each situation differently.
