Oppresses people with disabilities while privileging those without. Social construction: disability is seen as a trait of the individual. Results when social designs and are built by the environment. Does not account for the presence or participation of people with non-typical physical, emotional, intellectual, or social abilities and needs. Do not account for a wide variety of people. Legislation: laws that protect people with disabilities from discrimination require people to meet thresholds. Economic productivity: defines what capacities people need to have in order to be considered functional. Educational system stereotypes at a young age. If disabilities are in the media, not shown in a positive light. Physical: quadriplegic, paraplegic, cerebral palsy, and any permanent mobility impairment. Systemic: epilepsy, cancer, diabetes, ms, arthritis, and other chronic illnesses. Intellectual disability: iq below 70, low adaptive functioning. Subordination: institutional level through laws and policies. Educationally: testing/teaching are weighted to learning medically: advise families towards oppressive practices culturally: dynamic between normal and deficient.
