Palpebral fissures look for drainage or discharge redness look at scalar (should be white) look for jaundice look at conjunctiva (should be pink), if pale could be anemic check for pupillary reflexes. Direct is only looking at one eye conducive is looking at both but only shining light on one look at pupil size accommodation: convergence. Patients who have macular degeneration have decreased peripheral vision light shining from above should be seen in the same place in both eyes. Perform cover test cranial nerve 3,4,6 extra ocular movements cranial nerve one is olfactory. Use the light to look for red reflex. Nose look for symmetry inspect septum should be midline, may see holes in septum. Palpate the tragus look for ear was tympanic membrane, should be pearly gray. May see line behind membrane if there is a line it may be a sinus infection.
