Document Summary
Catalyst: substances that speed up chemical reactions, reducing activation energy. Enzyme: proteins that help speed up chemical reactions in the body. They are not changed when they perform their function and can be used over and over again. Be able to interpret data presented in either table or figure form. Activation energy: minimum quantity of energy that the reacting species must possess in order to undergo a specified reaction. Product: result that is released after the enzyme-substrate make a chemical reaction. Active site: a region on an enzyme that binds to a protein or other substance during a reaction. Of a reaction that would not occur efficiently in the absence of an enzyme: polymerization of proteins/amino acids, digestion. Tyrosinase: enzyme that is involved in melanin synthesis, gives skin its color. Involved in the browning of fruits, tubers, and fungi that have been damaged.
