37 views2 pages

Document Summary

Hypothalamus: controls autonomic nervous system and hormone release. Basal ganglia: involved in control of movement and autonomic behaviors (habitual behaviors) Dura mater: outermost layer closest to the skull. Arachnoid: middle layer where cerebral spinal fluid flows. Pia mater: innermost layer, where blood vessels that surround the brain can be found. Cerebrospinal fluid: cushions brain, carry nutrients and transports waste, 1 way system flows from ventricles to blood through the arachnoid villi in the dura sinuses. Ventricles: network of cavities filled with cerebrospinal fluid. Choroid plexus: vascular network in each ventricle that produces cerebrospinal fluid. How csf flows from lateral ventricles third ventricle ----(via cerebral aqueduct)---> 4th ventricle subarachnoid space absorbed by blood vessels on the surface of the brain back into the blood stream. Subarachnoid space: surrounds the brain and spinal cord. Hydrocephalus: caused by build up of cerebrospinal fluid.
