Personality assessment: systematic measurement of the aspects of personality: ex) motivation. Three major functions: obtaining information, communication and prediction. Before a personality test is put to use, it"s evaluated through systematic research to make sure it measures what it says it will in a precise manner. Group norm: summary of the scores on a measure obtained from a specific group of individuals who have taken the test previously. Six major areas of personality assessment: clinical, counseling , legal, educational, vocational and research. Includes psychiatric hospitals, mental health hospitals, and therapy centers. Helps diagnose and classify and individual"s emotional and behavioral problems. Helps determine if a person is sane and can be held responsible for criminal actions, also child custody cases and sexual harassment. Personality profile: a summarized interpretation of a collection of personality characteristics in written and graphic form. Reliability: how consistent a test is in what it"s measuring.
