Document Summary
Embryogenesis and the development of the reproductive system. Each mammalian cell contains an even number of chromosomes (1 f, 1 m) One pair of these chromosomes is called sex chromosome. Females have 2xs and males have 1 x and 1 y. During fertilisation, female contributes only x and male can give x or y. X chromosome is about 3x larger than the y. Y 78 genes in humans and only 27 proteins. Sex determining region of the y chromosome = sry gene. 1 gene, sry, directs development of males. Unspecialised cells developed into group of cells with same function. Inner cell mass differentiates to form embryo"s germ layers. Reproductive system derived from mesoderm and ectoderm (hypothalamus and pituitary) Derived from ectoderm in roof of the mouth. Posterior infundibulum of brain (nerve tissue) grows towards the embryonic mouth. Anterior rathke"s pouch separates from the roof of the mouth. Endoscope inserted through the nose or under the upper lip.
