Document Summary
The selection and arrangement of objects in certain positions. Guidelines of composition: simplicity, the rule of thirds, lines, form & color, angle of view & perspective, texture & patterns, balance, framing. To distill an object or scene down to its most basic components. Main subject is centered in the image with a balanced and formal symmetry. Can sometimes work or sometimes be very ordinary/obvious/boring: photos with a formal, balanced symmetry (still life, when the strength of the subject is so great, centering doesn"t matter (action) Imagine the viewfinder being split into thirds (3 sections) Practice placing objects in the center, at an intersection, or any of the sections. If there are multiple objects in shot, practice balancing each object using the lines: example: relationship of 2 objects one can be on left vertical line, other on right. Lines, shapes, and colors that exist in a photo. Can sometimes be the stronger subject of a photo instead of the object.
