Experiment: breeding garden peas (inexpensive, 34 varieties, easy to grow in short time, large. # of offspring, identifiable traits, control pollination: flowers have stamen (male), and carpel (female), self-fertilize: pollen from stamen land on carpel of same flower, experimental cross pollination: Remove anthers before mature pollen produced prevent self- fertilization. Transfer pollen from different flower to carpel f1. Physical or chemical expression of genes: tested blending inheritance : sperm and egg contain sampling of fluid from various parts of body; during reproduction, fluids blend to form intermediate offspring, mendel crossed true-breeding plants with contrasting traits: F1: 1st filial (latin for son ) generation. Trait that disappeared in f1 reappeared in f2. Same pattern in 6 other pea plant characters: f2 3:1 ratio: conclusion. If fluid have blended, can"t explain how they separate.
