Exposed to light only from one direction growth at tip. Works mainly on 1 cell wall. Moves unidirectionally down the shoot active transport. Main function = cell elongation at shoots (cell wall elongates) 1 cell wall: cellulose fibers can be changed. 2 cell wall: cellulose + lignin unable to expand. Presence of auxin increases activity of h-pumps. Water enters via osmosis turgor pressure cell expands. Auxin produced at the tip of the plant. Auxin travels laterally to shaded side of stem. Auxin moves down the stem via polar transport. Herbicides: can kill plants cuz of hormonal overdose. Kills plants with broad leaves cuz they take away light from other plants that we need. Developing seed has auxin fruit growth. Spray synthetic auxin on greenhouse tomatoes greater fruit development from seeds.
