Types of parasites: location in/on host, ectoparasite lives on the host surface, endoparasite lives inside the host, vary in their dependency on the host, obligate parasite must be parasitic for at least part of its life cycle, facultative parasites are not normally parasitic but if the opportunity arises they will take it. They came out with 8 goals called millennium development goals (mdg): eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, to achieve universal primary education, to promote gender equality, reduce child mortality, to improve maternal health, to combat hib/aids, malaria and other diseases, to ensure environmental sustainability, to develop global partnership for development of these. These are group of 17 diseases that can be divided into 4 categories: helminths, foodborne trematodiases, schistosomiasis, cysticercosis/taeniasis, soil transmitted helmiths (sth, ascariasis, hookworm, trichuriasis, lymphatic filariasis, onchocerciasis = river blindness, dracunculus medinensis = the fiery serpent, protozoa, human african trypanosomiasis, chagas disease, leishmaniasis, bacteria, buruli ulcer causes by mycobacterium ulcerans.
