Oedipus runs away from corinth in order to prevent an oracle that is directed against his actual family. He overvalues the female members of his kinship group. Oedipus then commits incest with his actual mother. He tries to save jocasta even after he knows he has committed incest with her. His last wishes are for his daughters, but not his sons.
