Document Summary
Academic behavior aids in learning while inappropriate behavior hinders learning of the child and children in the classroom. Theoretical perspective in which learning and behavior are described and explained in terms of stimulus-response relationships. Developed out of structuralism (focused on introspection and thought) Founded on the thought of a blank slate. Prosocial and antisocial behavior as applied to the school setting. Applied behavior analysis (aba): developing and constructing behaviors by analyzing the purpose of given behavior in the environment. Cognitive behavioral therapy (cbt): therapy used in and out of the school setting that combines thought pattern analysis with behavioral intervention; these two are tied. Stimulus (s): object or event that influences a students behavior. Ex. a student who struggles with writing neatly throughout elementary school may eventually say (cid:324)i can"t(cid:325) when in middle school. Limitation: does not account for mental change. Focus on observable events in contiguity (temporal proximity) (s-r) Ex. stimulus: jerry walks into class late, makes a scene.
