Document Summary
Story: jake used to work in chinatown as a policeman before becoming a private investigator. Back then, he tried to protect a girl and failed: since becoming a private investigator, he assumes every case that comes in is linked to matrimonial infidelity. Photographs are a theme in the film. Things are framed precisely, characters have to be looking through lenses, glasses, mirrors, to get small clues. When you put a frame on something, that"s all you see in the story. We were shown some, but nothing outside the frame. Relationships and secrets are kept in photographs in the film. Mulray claims she had a flaw in her eye, like a birthmark, and she later ends up getting killed with a gunshot to the eye. Lots of elements of the film are detected with the senses. They hear clues incorrectly, don"t look in places well enough, don"t see the truth, or assume something else than reality.
