01:377:303 Lecture Notes - Lecture 22: Shutter Speed, Human Eye, Action Potential
Document Summary
Purpose is to go beyond the ability of the human body to assess and analyze human movement. Human eye can process information from 10-12 items per second but some movements take less than 1 second to complete. We can overcome this by freezing the movement. Leaving the shutter open can reveal the pattern of the movement when the movement is performed in a dark room with a person wearing light bulbs on the various joints and extremities. The camera is fitted with a motor drive to get a more rapid film advancement and exposure. High speed motion picture camera coupled with a stop-motion film analyzer. 500 frames per second for human motion. 20,000 frames per second for projectiles and impacts. Digitize on an x and y axis and feed it into the computer for assessment. Interface the video with the computer for analysis instead of using movie film.
