Sub max testing and prediction equations lab question: maximal tests are used to directly measure vo2max, however submaximal tests can estimate vo2max as well. To differentiate what test is to be used all depends on subject type, equipment one has available, personal preference and the purpose of the test. The goal for submaximal testing is to determine the hr in response to various submaximal test and use the results to predict the vo2max. Advantages for maximal testing is that it provides the most accurate data in terms of finding vo2max and best assesses disease presence. The disadvantages of max testing are that it is expensive and there is a great risk of harming oneself by pushing into voluntary fatigue. Advantages of submaximal testing is that it is inexpensive, requires less time to perform, and safe for those with known diseases.
