All living cells, viable spores , viruses, and any other infectious agents are destroyed or removed from an object or habitat. Eliminate nearly all pathogens from an object or surface. Disinfectants - chemical agents ; use on inanimate objects. Sanitization - microbial population reduced to levels that are considered safe by public health standards ; inanimate objects , cleaned and disinfected. Control of microorganisms on living tissue with chemical agents. Antiseptic - chemical agent applied to living tissue , kill or inhibit pathogen growth. Germicide , bactericide -> kill: chemical that end in -static. If the chemical is removed growth will resume. Population death - exponential ; population reduced by same fraction at constant intervals. Heat - at some particular temp, 10% of organism die in 1st min ; in 2nd min 10% of those that remained alive will die etc: other factors, pop. Size - the fewer organisms present the shorter the time needed to achieve sterility.
