Document Summary

01:450:101 earth systems - chapter 14: internal processes part 2. Research to locate previous pyroclastic flows and lahars so that we can predict where they will flow in the future, and where potential danger zones are. This is because when there are magma chambers, the waves of the earthquake travel differently. Igneous features: rocks formed beneath the earth"s surface within the crust, also called pluton. Batholiths: large subterranean body of great depth; can be expressed eventually, and become important in mountain building. Volcanic neck: remnant of an old volcanic magma pipe ( throat ) that is filled with solidified magma after an eruption. The rock surrounding the magma is not as hard as the magma, so it weathers away, leaving only the solidified magma pipe, which looks like a sharp spike. Laccoliths: slow moving, viscous magma forced between horizontal layers of rock. It builds up and creates a mass on the surface that looks a rock mushroom.
