Hurricane katrina is known to have been one of the deadliest hurricanes in its history to have hit the. On august 23rd of 2005, katrina formed over the bahamas, slowly increasing its winds and speed it became a tropical depression. While heading to florida, on august 25 th, it became a hurricane, but then it weakened to a tropical storm once again. However, once it emerged into the gulf of mexico, it rapidly became a category 5 hurricane, but weakened before making its second landfall as a category 3 in louisiana. It created great damage in new orleans, mississippi. A great deal of damage was left behind when it was all over. More than 100,000 thousands of homes were destroyed and about 80 percent of new orleans was under water. The extent of hurricane went from florida to alabama, louisiana and mississippi. Very strong winds slammed into mississippi devastating everything in its path.
