There are universal traits amongst all dance music. Baroque binary dance represents one of the high points of western dance and dance music. All baroque dances followed the same form: aabb. Section a began with tonic and moved to dominant by the end. Suite - groups of dances during the baroque period. Began as lute dances, but harpsichord composers and appropriated the lute style. Could be played on either lute or harpsichord. It was a means to effect two ends: Underlying approach to art and music in the baroque period and was often desired to create drama. Organization of dances into suites permitted composers to create longer, unified works from short component dances. Nuclear dances are the dances where it"s necessary to form a heart of a suite. Optional dances came in a way to get rid of the suite and they originated from the french province.
