February 2, 2017: where should the borders of europe be drawn, what does it mean to be european, allegiance to europe versus allegiance to the states and nations. Europe continent: often described as a continent, but geographers define continents as large, unbroken and discrete landmasses almost entirely surrounded by water, on that basis only north and south america, asia, australia, Antarctica, and africa fit the bill: europe is part of asian continent. Subcontinent of eurasia: europeans are racially, culturally, linguistically distinct from asians. Where are europe"s limits: to the south. Ends with the mediterranean: to the west. Ends with atlantic: to the north. End with arctic ocean: in all three directions includes islands with political and cultural links to europe: greenland, iceland, etc, to the east and southeast are where many of the unanswered questions lay. The border of asia is in the ural mountains in russia.
