King decided to move up north to get land that was lost. North became a place of chaos where wars were continuously fought for land •in the city of Italy is where the beginning of commerce began (trades) to fill the void of not having agriculture. •Use of money (capital) is starting to be used more as a form of trade. •Need to cooperate, and need to trust in north was more because of the desperate need for protection, and not because it was something that they wanted to do. •Absence of central authority+ no inherited monarchy+ no leadership except for elites (who are merchants which at times buy titles) •Social capitalism happened because of there surrounding situations which then laid the foundation for a democracy •Explaining Social Capital •Independent economic life •due to lack of central authority •Adequate and accountable governmental performance •Horizontal ties of civic collaboration and solidarity •Lack of Oligarchic reach •Formation of social trust •Out of collective necessity •From Peasants and nobility into citizens (transformation) •As opposed to rulers & subjects •In order for someone to run the show of north while all this was going on elites decided to make a co
