Sen joseph mccarthy (r-wisc) speech in wheeling, wv in 1950 claiming to have the names of communists in the state department. Series of investigations in 1950-52 fail to turn up hard evidence, but manage to tar the truman administration politically: pushing mccarthy as republican because truman is a democrat. In 1953-54, mccarthy announces investigation of communism within the. 1954: mccarthy faces bipartisan censure by senate. Proceeds to drink himself to death: by end of 1944 mccarthy was told that he abused his power in the office for attacking innocent people and whatnot. Mccarthy becomes the face of this scary and uncertain thread of anti- communism. Korean war: another unsettled question at the end of wwii: Status of korea after japanese forced out. South is more rightist pro capitalist: temporary division of the country into north and south korea; development of communist and anti-communist/rightist and proto- states in each, invasion of south korea by north korea in 1950.
