After his stroke, marvin was no longer marvin: because he could not process his feelings. Marvin had a stroke that left him paralyzed on one side of the body. He also has been cut off from emotions due to this stroke. Researchers have been trying to determine why he can"t feel emotions such as fear. He lost the ability to feel the emotions that are produced he lost the ability to experience the awareness of emotion. Emotions are generated first by the amygdala, which triggers a series of emotions to other places. For most people, awareness of an emotion follows just seconds after we"re feeling a certain way this is where marvin"s stroke killed millions of brain cells the physical response is not communicated back to his brain. Antonio damasio writes: feelings form the base for what humans have described for millennia as the human soul or spirit.
