Integration: how we integrate our observations into coherent impressions of other people. How our impression can subtly create a distorted picture of reality. First impressions are subtly influenced by superficial aspects of a person"s appearance. We prejudge people based on facial features. We read traits from faces (e. g. , trustworthiness, competence) We judge baby-faced adults differently than mature-faced adults. Such judgements can lead to important outcomes. We often have scripts or preset notions that certain types of situations. E. g. , a script for a first date or for how to order at a restaurant. Functional: enables us to anticipate goals, behaviors, and outcomes likely to occur in a particular setting. Scripts help us understand other people"s verbal or nonverbal behavior. We sometimes see what we want or expect to see in a situation.
