Possibly more socially acceptable for women to have a phobia. Men are more likely to approach an uncomfortable situation. Socialized to be tough, so they behave tough. More acceptable for women to be timid and avoid things. When billy was 5, his neighbor"s dog bit him. When he went over to another friend"s house and saw their dog, he got scared. He asked his mom if he could go home and now he doesn"t go to any house where there is a dog. Ex. panic attack on the bus causes a fear of buses. Ex. seeing somebody get scared when they see a bee. You then develop a phobia of bees. Parents tell their kids what kind of situations are safe and which are not. Inherited tendency to fear situations dangerous to humans.
