Cannabis is the mostly widely used illicit psychoactive substance in the us. One year prevalence (2005) is approximately 3. 4% among 12-17 year olds, and 1. 5% among adults age 18 years and older, with 4 times more adult males than adult females, but similar rates of the disorder among 12-17 year olds. Individuals diagnosed with cannabis use disorder have high rates of concurrent abuse of other substances: Cannabis use is reported by 25%-80% of those in treatment for abuse of another substance. Individuals diagnosed with cannabis use disorder have high rates of concurrent mental disorders: Deterioration of performance at work or school.
