Persistent depressive disorder (dysthymia): chronic symptoms that don"t disable but keep one from functioning well or feeling good. Disruptive mood dysregulation disorder: severe, recurrent temper outbursts that are largely out of proportion in intensity or duration to the situation. 6. 7% of the population is affected by mdd each year. 16. 6% of the population is affected by mdd at some point in their life. Mdd is the leading cause of disability worldwide. Women are 70% more likely to experience mdd during their lifetime. Reasons may include: hormonal differences, predominant coping mechanisms (problem- focused or emotion-based), men are more likely to hide their feelings. Problem-focused coping more common among men: confronting a stressor head on.
