Biological explanation of deviance: some researchers trace deviant and antisocial behaviors to physical anomalies, body chemistry compositions, or hereditary characteristics, e. g. Cesare lombroso (1835-1909: it was claimed that inherited traits may include alcoholism, crime, drug addiction, certain types of mental disorders, and certain sexual deviations, only limited and mixed evidence supports these views. Evaluation of biological explanations: genetic factors may explain some types of deviance and the behavior of some deviant individuals, more recent, better designed and executed studies on the biological effects on crime. Nd no relationship or weak ones between biological factors and crime in general: inheritance: !2: cannot determine deviant behaviors because culture and social norms cannot be transmitted through biological genes, social norms and forms of deviance are learned through social interactions and transmitted from families, friends, and common acquaintances. Evaluation of psychiatric model: confusion between illness and deviation from norms, circular reasoning in essence due to the lack of objective criteria for mental illness.
