Shows presented in one of the 40 large theatres with 500 seats or more: broadway theater is the center of professional theater in the united states, attracts the country"s finest writers, performers, and technicians. Frequently producers as well: are management not labor, broadway theater owners, majority of theaters owned by 3 companies. Shubert organization: owns 17 broadway theaters, nederlander organizations, controls 9 theatres. Jujamcyn: owns 5 broadway houses, broadway tours, touring, remount of productions with a new cast and crew, official broadway national tour, travels to major cities across the country, more successful shows have several touring companies. Some "sit down" in other cities for long runs. Less well-known: more creative and artistic, experimental and daring, blue man group, vagina monologues. In the heights: rent, avenue q, off broadway, longest running shows in us history, opened may 3, 1960, closed, the fantasticks, off broadway awards, obies, lucille lotrel awards, drama desk, ny drama critics circle.
