Document Summary
Law of specific nerve energies activity by a particular type of nerve will always send the same signal to the brain. In modern terms, the brain somehow interprets the action potentials from the auditory nerve as sounds, those from the olfactory nerve as odors, and so forth. Admittedly, that word somehow glosses over a deep mystery. Slide 5 the eye and its connections to the brain the lens is what is flexible and adjusts. An object in the visual field produces an inverted image on the retina. The optic nerve exits the eyeball on the nasal side (the side closer to the nose). In the vertebrate retina, however, messages go from receptors at the back of the eye to bipolar cells, located closer to the center of the eye (see figure 5. 2). The bipolar cells send their messages to ganglion cells, located still closer to the center of the eye.
