ENS 265 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Cellular Respiration, Vasoconstriction, Vasodilation
Document Summary
Local response of the body to an injury or irritant. Occurs at the cellular level in tissue. Releases chemical mediators that initiates the ir. Dispose of dead and dying tissue (necrotic) Lymphatic systems is passive which means it is not activated until you mode. Lymphatic system gets rid of garbage and debris. Extent of injury where it occurred, nature of activity. Not just loss of motion but tissue damage. Swelling and edema occur during the inflammatory process. Increase in tissue volume resulting in extra fluid material in tissue. Accumulation of the fluid portion of blood in the tissues. Fluid moves back and forth between capillaries and uninjured tissues. Out of balance: more fluid in tissue then goes back into circulation. The longer it is out of balanced: increased edema and swelling. Bleeding from the damaged blood vessel walls. Continues as long as vessel walls remain open. Ultrastructural changes (changes within tissue and cell)
