ENS 265 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Myositis Ossificans, Human Musculoskeletal System, Sprain
Document Summary
High level of elasticity: ability to stretch. High level of contracitibility: ability to return to its original shape. Tendon: two times stronger than the muscle that is associated with. Type 2b (short sprints)l fast twitch glycolytic. Bundles of collagen fibers forming a connection between bones. Elastic and collagen fibers: very limited elasticity and contractility. Strongest in the middle, weak on the ends. An external force acting on tissues that causes an internal reaction within tissues. This must be a gradual and progressive process, too much overload can lead to injury and fatigue. Mechanical forces: friction scraping, compression, tearing, cutting, penetrating. Injuries: blisters, abrasions, bruise, laceration, avulsion, incision, puncture wound. Muscle strain: stretch, tear or rip in the muscle of its tendon. Grade 1: some muscle fibers have been stretched or actually torn. Grade 2: a number of muscle fibers have been torn. Grade 3: complete rupture of the muscle. Grade 1: some stretching and separating of ligament fibers.
