Document Summary
Prevalence: amount of cases at any one time in the population: ~15-35 cases per 1,000 people hospitalized, ~1-3 cases per 1,000 people in the population. Incidence: new cases per year: ~24 new cases per year per 1,000 people hospitalized, ~1-3 new cases per year per 1,000 people in the population. Graph represents short-term survival of aki: stage 3: about 50% have died within 40 days. Grading scale for aki: rifle = risk, injury, failure, loss, end-stage renal disease (esrd) Based on serum creatinine level and urine output criteria: as urine output slows for extended periods of time, patients progress through these various stages, serum: clear liquid on top of clotted blood. Measure creatinine higher creatinine = worse conditions. Prevalence: age 20-64: ~5 cases per 1,000 people, age >65: ~250 cases per 1,000 people! Incidence: age 20-64: ~5 new cases per year per 1,000 people, age >65: ~45 new cases per year per 1,000 people.
