Political parties die and another is born, rare. Two will emerge, one will die and one will make it. 1856 to 1860 - american party and republican party emerge. Rose in the 1850s to the potential challengers of the democrats, and then they died. Whig candidate, zachary taylor, wins by 56% by electoral vote and by 47% with popular vote. Lewis cass one of the main advocate for popular sovereignty, has 44% of electoral votes and 43% popular votes. Free soil party got 0% electoral vote and 10% of popular votes. No slavery in lands that is still questionable. Federal government cannot tell states what to do. Don"t want slavery in any other lands that become states. New york has 36 electoral votes while everyone else has around 3-12. People owned by other people are counted as 60% of one person. For every 8 immigrants, 7 go to free states.
