Document Summary

With the rising inclusion of robots in our daily lives people are beginning to raise concerns regarding the ethical issues that follow them. Noel sharkey, renowned computer scientist, wrote a piece titled the ethical frontiers of robots that explores both the advantages and disadvantages of integrating computer machines into our lifestyles (2012). He develops his article by looking at the ethical issues surrounding the use of robots for childcare, senior care, and military purposes, and raises a number of concerns. I agree with sharkey that using robots for these purposes can both be effective but also negligent, cost-efficient but also physically and psychologically dangerous. Using these highly intelligent machines has aided our society so far, leaving their potential use for other means open to interpretation. In his first point, sharkey explores the ethical uses of robots for childcare purposes. Children require a great deal of human contact, especially during the most developmental stages of their lives.
