During depression, between 500,000 - 2million mexican americans were repatriated" to mexico to free up jobs. In texas, segregation of white, black, and mexican schools with the latter two being clearly unequal". Mexican american solders served in wwii, but returned to "second class citizenship" after war. Chicano movement emerged in the 1960s and 1970s to fight for civil rights of mexican americans.
