Engagement: more interaction equals more conflict. Foreign affairs have different problems than domestic problems. Different actors: for domestic it is congress: foreign policy is the president and state department, more diplomacy. Different checks and balances: very ineffective. Anarchic environment: nobody is incharge, domestically law has to be followed, people will enforce that. Goal of the policies can be different. Domestic policy: to benefit certain groups of the population. Foreign policy: to benefit all the population. Containment: prevent the spread of communism, domino theory. If one country is lost then another country is lost which will lead to the entire continent fall: south vietnam leads to fall of cambodia and eventually entire. Asia to soviet union: foreign aid, diplomacy, and military power, try to get countries to join our team by the above.
